UPGA is the official governing body of professional golf in Uganda, incorporated 4th September 2012.

Our mandate is to govern, develop, and promote professional golf — creating pathways for elite players, sanctioning official tournaments, and growing the next generation of talent.

The UPGA Journey

2006
UPGA Founded
The Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) was established in February 2006 by Deo Akope, Charles Yokwe (RIP), Denis Anguyo, Godfrey Mande, Steven Kasaija, and Sadi Atibu to create structure and opportunities for professional golfers in Uganda.
2006
First Leadership Appointed and Trustees Established
The inaugural executive committee was formed with Deo Akope as Captain, Fabian Rwalinda as Secretary, and Fred Tumuhairwe as Treasurer, providing early direction and governance. The first trustees: Fabian Rwalinda, Sam Sejjaka, and Anthony Katamba — were appointed to provide oversight and guide the long-term vision of the association.
2007+
Early Growth & Challenges
UPGA navigated limited funding, few tournaments, and low visibility while working to establish a professional structure and build credibility within Uganda’s golf ecosystem.
2010+
Expansion of Competitive Play
The association began organizing more tournaments, strengthening relationships with golf clubs and stakeholders, and increasing participation among professional players.
Present
Sustained Growth & Impact
UPGA continues to grow its membership, improve standards of play, and create pathways for amateur golfers to transition into the professional ranks, shaping the future of golf in Uganda.
